I started working with clay when I took a weekend workshop with my son about twelve years ago. Since, I have continued participating in workshops learning techniques such as throwing, pinching, hand building and most recently a mosaic class from a neighboring artist. I seldom title my work because I believe art says something different to each person, so I leave it to you to decide on a title. I hope you find this work to be interesting and inspiring and perhaps pull forth a thought, a feeling or maybe a memory. TECHNIQUE All the clay tiles and sculptural pieces are hand made by me using terra cotta or raku clay. It is then glazed and fired to Co5 in an electric kiln. I also incorporate found objects into the mosaics such as jewelry, stones, river glass, stamps, photos, stained glass, china, etc. making each piece unique. The ”goddess” was inspired by my attending a lecture at a monastery about unearthing religious relics which were all female, thousands of them! I thought,” it is time for a new one to immerge.” The goddess represents to me the nurturing power within all of us, female and male. We all feel the need to heal in one way or another, at one time or another. She may speak to you in another way, and that is why, as I mentioned earlier, I do not title my work with her in it. The faces in my work belong to her also.
